Sick leave
Also known as: absence · medical leave · eAU · Krankschreibung
Definition
A period during which an employee is unable to work for medical reasons, usually evidenced by a doctor's certificate. Triggers continued pay obligations and, beyond a country-specific threshold, statutory sick-pay reimbursement.
Why it matters for HRIS ↔ payroll sync
Sick days are entered in the HRIS but they translate directly into payroll: continued pay, statutory reimbursements (U1 in Germany, AOK partial cover in NL, etc.) and certificate handling. In Germany the electronic sick-leave certificate (eAU) lives at the health-insurance fund and has to be retrieved by the payroll system, but the HRIS still wants to see the certified period for absence reporting. stoa moves the certificate and the absence period in both directions so no one is keying the same date twice.
