Record of Employment (ROE)

Also known as: ROE · separation document

Definition

A statutory document issued by an employer when an employee experiences an interruption of earnings — termination, parental leave, sick leave. Best known from Canada; equivalent concepts exist across Europe (Arbeitsbescheinigung in DE, attestation Pôle emploi in FR).

Why it matters for HRIS ↔ payroll sync

Whatever the local name, "leaver certificate" documents are produced by the payroll system but their accuracy depends on the HRIS having the right leave dates, weekly hours and reason codes. A missing or wrong certificate delays unemployment benefits for the leaver — which translates directly into a hostile review, an HR-support ticket, or in some countries a labour-court summons. Automated sync of the underlying data is the cheapest insurance against that whole class of problem.
